Novak Djokovic won his 10th Australian Open title with a 6-3 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-5) victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas on Sunday.
The 35-year-old has now won all his 10 Australian Open finals, to return to the top of the rankings.
Tsitsipas showed grit and resilience to battle Djokovic, but the Serbian had too much to offer.
Djokovic missed 2022 edition of the tournament due to his Covid-19 vaccination status.
He has been unbeaten at Wimbledon since 2018, spanning a record 28 matches.
Djokovic described the tournament as one of the most challenging of his illustrious career.
“I have to say this has been one of the most challenging tournaments I have ever played in my life considering the circumstances, not playing last year, coming back this year,” said Djokovic.
“I try to pinch myself and really live through these moments. It’s a long journey. Only the team and the family knows what we have been through in the last four or five weeks.
“I would say this is probably the biggest victory of my life, considering those circumstances.”
Djokovic has now equalled Nadal’s all-time record for most Grand Slam titles with 22.
