Brighton have rejected Arsenal’s £60m bid for Moises Caicedo.
The Gunners are in the market for a midfielder after Mohamed Elneny was ruled out of action due to injury.
Caicedo has been highly sought-after in this window, Chelsea had a £55m bid rejected for him some days ago.
The Seagulls have already lost Leandro Trossard to the Gunners in a £21m deal last week and they are reluctant to sanction the sale of one of their key players in Caicedo.
Arsenal have had a busy transfer window bringing in Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior.
Caicedo has made 26 appearances for Brighton, scoring two goals.
Brighton coach Roberto De Zerbi has held talks with the Ecuadorian and he is hopeful he will remain at the Amex Stadium.
“I spoke with him like a father, not like a coach.
“I hope he can stay with us until the end of the season because for my idea/my opinion that’s the best solution for him and for us.”
Brighton are preparing to host Liverpool on Sunday in the FA Cup fourth round at the Amex Stadium.
