Local Bourse Resumes Negative as NGX-ASI Slides by 0.05%

The Nigeria equity market closed transaction for today, Monday (22nd August 2022) negative, as the market performance indicators (NGX-ASI and Market Capitalization) was down by 0.05%.

Consequently, the market index (All-Share Index) dipped by 25.95 basis points, representing a decline of 0.05 percent to close at 49,344.67. While the Market Capitalization lost ₦13.99 Bn, representing a decrease of 0.05 percent to close at ₦26.61 trillion from ₦26.63 trillion.

Similarly, the market activities were bearish as the Total Volume and Value traded dipped by 7.18 percent and 19.97 percent, respectively. Approximately 122.74 million units valued at ₦1.30 billion were transacted in 3,915 Deals.

MBENEFIT was the most traded stock in terms of volume, accounting for 15.03 percent of the total volume of trades, followed by TRANSCORP (7.53%), GTCO (6.99%), STERLNBANK (6.47%), and ACCESSCORP (5.22%) to complete the top five on the volume chart.

However, MTNN emerged as the most traded stock in value terms, with 18.86 percent of the total value of trades on the exchange.
COURTVILLE topped the advancers’ chart with a price appreciation of 9.09 percent, trailed by HONYFLOUR (8.68%), MBENEFIT (8.00%), NEM (4.71%), CHAMPION (2.90%), and four (4) others.

On the Contrary, fifteen (19) stocks depreciated, topped by FTNCOCOA with a price depreciation of 9.09 percent to close at ₦0.30, as LASACO (-8.65%), ETI (-5.66%), NGXGROUP (-4.62%), ARRIPRUD (-3.45%), TRANSCORP (-1.87%), AIICO (-1.75%) and ACADEMY (-1.44%) also dipped in price. In that regard, the market breadth closed negative, recording 9 gainers against 19 losers.

Furthermore, the sector performance was negative as three of the five sectors closed bearish, led by Banking (-0.69%), trailed by Insurance (-0.11%) and Oil & Gas (-0.07%), while the Industrial Goods and Consumer goods rose marginally 0.02% and 0.07%, respectively.
