A former presidential aspirant of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has emerged the party’s governorship candidate in Ogun State.

Naija247news learnt the re-run primary took place in Abeokuta following an alleged disqualification of the two factional governorship candidates, Ezekiel Fayoyin and Mrs. Kassim Jackie-Adunni by the leadership of NNPP.

Oguntoyinbo, an entrepreneur, had earlier pulled out of the party’s presidential primary, which paved the way for a former Kano State governor, Musa Kwankwaso to emerge as the flagbearer.

He, however, emerged winner of the rerun governorship primary held at the NNPP secretariat in Abeokuta.

Announcing Oguntoyinbo as the winner, after a voice vote at the primary held at the party’s secretariat in Abeokuta, the Chairman, Electoral Committee and Returning Officer of the party, Abdullahi Tukur Dogonnama, said the party acted in line with the INEC’s substitution provision of candidates.

In his acceptance speech, Oguntoyinbo thanked the party members and delegates for their support and the opportunity to serve them.

He expressed satisfaction on the conduct of the exercise, saying he was happy with the election.

Addressing journalists shortly after the primary exercise, the NNPP Chairman, Comrade Olaposi Oginni, blamed the development on “administrative error”, saying the rerun would allow the party to substitute its governorship candidate.

The party chairman said, “The people of the state are not happy with the situation of things in the state, that’s why our party is introducing a very young, dynamic, and enthusiastic governor.

“Youth development is going to be our priority, and one of our core priorities is education. We are going to make sure that our children are well educated. We are the best and we are bringing the best to Ogun State.

“We have conducted the election legally in the presence of all INEC officials, security agencies, and the national officers of the party including the National Secretary. So we have the full backing of the electoral law.

“What we are saying as a leader of the party in Ogun State, we see that the boat and the ship of this party did not sink and that’s why we remain afloat and we are still there looking forward to taking over.”
