If Tinubu didn’t emerge as presidential flag-bearer, APC may lose power in 2023, pundits say

Despite Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu said he will congratulate the winner and return home if he loses the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC), some believe that Tinubu would dump APC, if the May 30 primaries have schemed against him. In my view, I don’t see Tinubu leaving APC if he didn’t get the party for the 2023 presidential election, though it would pain him so much, including me and other followers. I don’t see leaving APC, though anything is possible in Nigeria’s politics.

If Tinubu should leave APC for another party at this moment to pursue his presidential ambition that might destroy his political structure which he financed and nurtured for many years. Tinubu has the largest political structure among the politicians in Nigeria even more than Buhari. Buhari only has a political structure in the North while Tinubu has been able to expand his political network beyond the Southwest, the only advantage Buhari has over Tinubu is being the President of the country, which automatically, made him the leader of the party. For Tinubu to move his political structure to another party from now to June 3, which is the INEC’s deadline for the conduct of the 2023 general elections primaries would be a reckless decision. It is easy for politicians like Peter Obi to leave PDP for another party at this moment because he doesn’t have a political structure in PDP. Tinubu should return home and remains a godfather in APC than leave APC at this moment.

However, If Tinubu didn’t emerge as APC’s Presidential flag bearer while Atiku Abubakar emerged as PDP’s Presidential flag, APC will lose power to PDP in the 2023 Presidential election. Tinubu is the only candidate in APC that match Atiku Abubakar and both of them enter politics at the same time. Anyway, let’s watch how the game would be played for the next 9 days.
