Ekiti 2022: Engaging stakeholders, critical to electoral process — REC

Ado-Ekiti, May 21, 2022 INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ekiti State, Mr Adeniran Tella, says that engaging stakeholders in electoral matters is very critical to the process of achieving free and fair poll.

Tella said this on Saturday in Ado-Ekiti during a capacity building programme by INEC for Civil Society Organisations, Faith Based Organisations and Persons Living with Disabilities.

He said in an attempt to gaurantee the conduct of peaceful, free and credible governorship election, Juneon 18 in the state, the commission was earnestly engaging stakeholders.

“As we count down to the June 18, governorship election in Ekiti State, let me remind you that we have about 31 days more to the election, hence the need for capacity trainings for stakeholders.

“And this capacity building programme is youth-based, Persons With Diasabilities, women, and Civil Society Organizations which makes the programme to be strategic and timely

“This training is going to provide participants with the needed communication skills to assist the commission to disseminate electoral information to the good people of Ekiti State and it’s environment.

“The Civil Society Organizations are part of us and are so significant that we collaborate with them in the commission because of their sincere drive to carry out our constitutional mandate.
“I enjoin all the identified organisations to participate actively in the programmes and learn new skills for effective communication.

Mr Kayode Owolabi, The Chairman Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities JONAPWD Ekiti State Chapter, solicited for special consideration for PWDs on election day to have access to electoral materials that would ease their casting of votes.

He thanked the commissioner for including PWDs to participate in the capacity building programme, adding that it would assist them in learning all that is needful during election
