Warri(Delta), May 18, 2022 The Commissioner of Police (CP), Delta Command, Mr Ari Ali has reassured residents of the state of adequate security of lives and property.
Ali gave the assurance while confirming the alleged killing of a Dangote Truck driver by suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) to newsmen on Wednesday in Asaba.
The police boss also said that two vehicles and a tricycle were set ablaze by the hoodlums.
Naija247news reports that IPOB had issued a sit-at-home order to all the South Eastern states and Delta.
Ali said that Delta was not part of the South East zone of the country adding that the evil directive of the sit-at-home order could not be enforced in Delta.
“We are not going to allow any hoodlum under the guise of IPOB or ESN to come to Delta. In the first place Delta is not part of the South Eastern region of the country.
“On Monday, my men went out on a show of force. We dominated the whole command.
“Not just Asaba alone to showcase that we are capable of deterring them of carrying out the evil intention they had in mind.
“On Monday and Tuesday, we were all out. Today (Wednesday) at about 6:00am, I got information that somewhere at the outskirt of Asaba on the way to Ugbolu community that IPOB blocked the road.
“Unfortunately for them, my men were on their way.
“But most unfortunate was that Dangote truck laden with bags of cement on his way from Okpella in Edo to Asaba was intercepted at that particular road block and the driver was shot dead for violating their evil order.
“Before my men arrived there, they had deserted the place and consequently my men went round Ugbolu community in search of the hoodlums all to no avail.
“Only the driver was killed, the others ran into the bush and found their way to the police station at Ugbolu hale and healthy. Two vehicles were set abaze while one tricycle was burnt beyond recognition,” he said.
The CP said that he would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that peace and security was guaranteed in the state.
He said that the hoodlums expected that residents in Delta would not be on the street, noting that people were going about doing their normal businesses unhindered and molested.
Ali also said that there was a robust partnership between the police command and the various communities in Delta which had led to the less degree of damage in the incident.
He commended the residents of divulging useful information to the police and solicited for a sustained relationship.
