Nkunku will only renew RB Leipzig contract if they play Champions League

Leipzig (Germany), May 11, 2022 RB Leipzig top goalscorer Christopher Nkunku will only renew his contract by one year until 2025 if the Bundesliga club qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

RB Leipzig are fourth and will be in the elite event if they beat Arminia Bielefeld in Saturday’s league finale.

Nkunku’s new contract will now include a release clause of around 65 million euros (68.6 million dollars) which can be triggered next year.

The 24-year-old French international has been in Leipzig since 2019 and has scored 31 goals in the Bundesliga, including a club leading 20 this season.

RB Leipzig won’t let him out of his contract until 2023 even if he doesn’t renew it.

He could however depart via a 40 million euros release clause, with champions Bayern Munich allegedly interested in the Austrian midfielder.
