Enugu, May 11, 2022 Coach Kingsley Obiekwu of Ingas FC from New Haven, Enugu says his team deserves to join the ongoing FA/Aiteo Cup competition at the second stage as 2021 runners-up.
Obiekwu said this on Wednesday after his team’s 3-1 win over Flying Angels FC of Garki during the encounter played inside Rangers International training pitch.
He told newsmen that he was dissatisfied with the fixture, saying that his team deserved to come into the competition at the same time with other National League teams.
Naija247news reports that Jerry Lebuwa put Ingas in front at the 14th minute before Daniel Aniako equalised for Flying Angels in the 19th minute.
Chiedozie Okorie put the game beyond Angels in the 55th minute before sealing it with a brace at the 62nd minute from the penalty spot.
The coach said his team did not do well in the first 45 minutes of the match, owing to fatigue from their National League One matches.
“We have played up to eight matches within the last four weeks and here we play the state Aiteo Cup at the first stage.
“This brought about the early substitution we made to add more energy to the players in the pitch and that yielded the result we are celebrating,” he said.
He said his team needed to rotate players to be able to cope with the two competitions.
“This will have to take us back to the drawing board.
“The technical crew is worried about the fatigue setting in and we have to put heads together and come out with a viable solution before any other match.
“People will see a better Ingas FC in the next round of this competition to ensure we keep our hope of reaching the final alive,” Obiekwu said.
He said that his team deserved the privilage of being on standby, following their exploit in 2021 when they reached the final.
“I understand that National League teams were on standby yet we were asked to start the competition from the first stage. This is not fair.
“Our target is to reach the final of this competition and possibly represent the state at the national,” he said.
Naija247news reports that the match between Great Achievers FC of Emene and De-Lawmaco FC of Independence Layout ended 3-0 in favour of Achievers.
Great Achievers’ win was achived through goals from Moses Idoko, Ifeanyi Orji and Makuochukwu Chineme after a barren first 45 minutes.
