THE Federal Government has announced that it has commenced the implementation of the National Fertilizer Quality Control Act 2019.
According to the government, this is to ensure it can keep track of producers, exporters, sellers, and distributors of fertilizers.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Agriculture, Muhammad Nanono, in Lagos.
He added that the Federal Government had started registering all fertilizer players of all categories in the nation.
He said, “Let me also emphasise that we have commenced the implementation of the national fertilizer quality control 2019 Act. We are currently registering all fertilizer players of all categories.
“After issuing the permit and certificate, we believe that this will enhance keeping track of the producers, exporters, sellers, and distributors to ensure that the quality of the fertilizers needed for the farmers in this country is being tracked. Let me also use this medium to call on all the players to register with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.”
According to the minister, fertilizers are scarce in the nation, and this is hampering agricultural output in the nation.
Nanono added, “We are facing a serious challenge of low and insufficient fertilizers by farmers which was part of the hindrance and the cause of low productivity of agricultural output.”
