FG commends Zamfara state government for moving up NECO chart from 37th to 14th position

Gusau, Oct. 19, 2020 The Federal Government has commended Gov. Bello Matawalle of Zamfara over his efforts at moving the state’s education sector to an enviable level.

The commendation was made by the Minister of State for Education, Mr. Chukwuemeka Nwajuba who was in the state to launch the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) on Monday, at the Government House, Gusau.

He said the development has helped in moving the state from 37th position to 14th on the National Examinations Council (NECO) examination performance chart.

The minister noted that the government has done very well in repositioning the education sector, in spite of threats by bandits, kidnappers and other criminals.
He noted that the security challenges has left over 148,000 children out of school.

The minister, however, pointed out that the conducive environment being created by the state government, had facilitated the enrolment of over 19,000 out of school children within a short time.

Nwajuba disclosed that the result of Matawalle’s peaceful disposition, made the Academic Staff Union of Universities to insist that he should be included in its negotiation with the Federal Government.

In his response, Matawalle pledged to sustain the efforts and fulfil all government obligations and commitments, in order to attract more education grants.

This will ensure our attainment of the target of being one of the best two states in education in the provision of best service delivery in education in the next one year.”

The governor said his administration would continue to engage the best hands and professionals in all sectors, to achieve the desired outcomes.

He pleaded with the federal government to give waiver to the state in the payment of over N3.8 billion debt it inherited in respect of WAEC and NECO examination fees, on which the government is paying N100 million monthly.
