Kaduna, Oct. 16, 2020 A Coalition of Civil Society Groups in the North, has called on the Federal Government to use similar energy and responsiveness used in ending SARS to end insecurity in the Northern part of the country.

The coalition also said those still protesting over SARS should end the protests, as government has met their demands.

It said instead of continuing with the protest, they should join the struggle of Northern groups to end insecurity in the region.

The group stated this during a press briefing held at Arewa House, on Friday in Kaduna.

It noted that over the last few days, the country has witnessed huge protests and demonstrations for citizens’ rights.

“Notable is the #ENDSARS protest that has not only attracted the physical participation of personalities from sport and entertainment as well as other industries, but has witnessed virtual participation of international personalities and organizations.

“This unison in demand and mobilization strength coupled with the listening tendencies of the Government has resulted in the scrapping of that unit of the police force.

“The brutality of SARS in some parts of the country with horrid details was too much to bear, and therefore condemnable in strong terms,” it noted.

The group also called on Government to redeploy members of the defunct SARS to volatile northern states to help contain the insecurity there, as requested by Borno Governor and other northern leaders.

It further called on Government to on permanent basis, deploy security personnel on the Kaduna-Abuja highway, to ensure safety of citizens.

The group said Government should improve the welfare of security personnel and provide better life for them and their families, for better efficiency and effectiveness.

The coalition urged the #EndSARS protesters to end the protest as government has met their demands.

The group added that the protesters, should join the struggle of Northern groups to end insecurity in the region.

“We call for calm and urge them to be civil in expressing concerns in order not to allow jobbers to take advantage of the situation and plunge our already fragile country into anarchy.

“As we appreciate the Government for accepting the demand of the people by ending SARS, we also call on all genuine comrades to put an end to the end-SARS struggle as our demand have been met.

“And we call on them to join us in calling for an end to the insecurity in the Northern part of Nigeria.”
