Gen. Abdullahi pushes for next African Military Games in Nigeria

Abuja, Oct. 15, 2020 The newly elected President of the Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA), Brig.-Gen. Maikano Abdullahi, says he will push for the next All African Military Games to be hosted in Nigeria.

OSMA is the body that represents Africa on the International Military Sports Council, aimed at fostering friendship through Sports while promoting physical fitness among the Armed Forces of member States.

He said this on Thursday in Abuja while briefing the newsmen on his victory in the election held in Yaoundé, Cameroun on Oct. 7

Abdullahi, who is the current Deputy Director Sports, Defence Headquarters Abuja, promised to introduce sporting activities that will enhance unity and foster friendship among member states

The OSMA boss promised to join hands with members of the Organisation to lift the standard of the continent’s military sports body.

He also pledged to take military sports to enviable standards in the continent and across the globe.

“I will introduce bilateral sports where neighbouring countries will come together to participate in such military sports activities that will unite them and enhance their relations.

`I will revive some popular sports which had faded off such as the confederation of African military football championships inaugurated by former president of Burkina Faso.

“I will make sure that it comes back and features regularly. We also have African Military Boxing Championship.

“There is also a trophy and championship introduced by President Olusegun Obasanjo, I will make sure that they are all brought back into the continent’s military sports,” he said.

Abdullahi also promised to introduce an E-library that would enhance research and other relevant activities for the promotion of sporting activities in the military.

He said the E-library, to be domiciled at OSMA headquarters in Yaoundé, would be dedicated to the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Abayomi Olonisakin.
