IAR donates N500,000 to ABU Workers FC

Zaria (Kaduna State), Oct. 6, 2020 (NAN) The Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR) has donated N500,000 to the ABU Workers FC, Malam Auwalu Umar, acting Director, Public Affairs, of the university said on Tuesday in Zaria.

Umar said that the donation was presented to the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the institution, Prof. Kabir Bala, by the institute’s Executive Director, Prof. Muhammas Ishiyaku.

Ishiyaku explained that the gesture was in response to the VC’s letter soliciting for financial support on behalf of the football club.

He commended the VC for his efforts and foresight in resuscitating the once famous football club, adding that the money was for the club to acquire a scoreboard.

Bala, while thanking the donor for the gesture, said that the monetary support would go a long way in resuscitating the club.

The VC said that a number of sports bodies across the federation had signified their intentions to help the university restore its glory in sports.

According to the VC, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) are already in contact with the university towards resuscitating sporting activities in the institution.
