Abuja, Oct. 6, 2020 (NAN) The Managing Director, Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Sen. Gbenga Ashafa, says the Act establishing the FHA needs to be amended to meet recent demand of the housing sector.

Ashafa said this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Femi Gbajabimila, on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said that visit was to familiarise and seek the collaboration of the National Assembly for the development of the housing sector.

Ashafa said that the development of any establishment or sector largely depended on the laws guiding and regulating the sector.

According to him, we have found out that some of the provisions in the FHA Act need to be worked on and that is one of the reasons we have come.

Responding, Gbajabimila said that the housing sector was set for a complete turnaround for good with former legislators at the helm of affairs.

The speaker said that there was no way any nation could talk about development without mentioning decent housing for the citizens.

According to him, it is a constitutional function of any government to ensure that every citizen has a roof over his/her head.

The Rep said that shelter was also a divine mandate as God has instructed leaders to ensure followers have a roof over them.

“With both of you at the helm of affairs in the FHA, Nigerians will have many more roofs over them.

“We are ready to collaborate with you on developmental issues,” he said.

Gbajabimila said that he was excited as the appointment of former lawmakers reflected the principles of the legislative system of government.
