Rep. Akande-Sadipe trains, empowers constituents on child birth

Ibadan, Sept. 30, 2020 The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora Affairs, Mrs Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, on Wednesday, commenced a five-day strategic training and empowerment programme for female youths and traditional birth attendants in her Oluyole federal constituency.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN reports that the training is aimed at empowering 30 female youths and traditional birth attendants in the lawmaker’s constituency.
NAN also reports that the programme is being handled by the Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research, in conjunction with Gio Bisiano Nigeria Limited.
Speaking on the importance of the programme, the Facilitator, Mrs Olayinka Thomas, said that it was to enlighten the traditional birth attendants to be effective in their traditional birth practices in order to eradicate or reduce maternal maternal and infant mortality.
“Also, we want to encourage them to have cordial relationship with other health workers,” she said.
According to Thomas, some communities that are deprived of health centres will have traditional birth attendants to help people, especially during childbirth.
“If there is any difficulty, they will know that they are to refer to any government hospital, either primary, secondary or tertiary,” she said.
Thomas added that as part of the training, the participants will also go on an excursion to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.
She also said that at the end of the training, the participants will be given the equipment needed during the process of childbirth as well as certificates of participation.
