Tricycle operator dies in Anambra accident

Awka, Sept. 29, 2020 A tricycle operator on Tuesday died in an accident involving a commercial bus and his tricycle at Nibo on Nibo-Onitsha Old Road in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra.

Mr Andrew Kumapayi, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), made this known to newsmen in Awka.

Kumapayi said that the accident, which occurred at about 9.00a.m, was caused by speeding.

The FRSC boss said that
11 people, six male adults and five female adults, were involved in the crash.

“The crash involved a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number NSH86YJ and a yellow tricycle without a registration number.

“According to witnesses, the bus driver was speeding, leading to loss of control and rammed into the tricycle.

“The tricycle operator died while a passenger sustained degree of injuries.

“The injured victim was taken to the Prime Hospital, Nibo, and the corpse of the deceased was deposited at the morgue in the same hospital before the arrival of FRSC rescue team,” he said.

Kumapayi said that the driver of the bus had been handed over to the police for investigation.

While condoling with the family of the deceased, the sector commander warned motorists against speeding.
