NDE takes 850 unemployed youth on basic national open apprenticeship scheme in Enugu

Enugu, Sept. 24, 2020 The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has engaged 850 unemployed youth on the second batch of basic national open apprenticeship scheme in Enugu.

The Enugu State Coordinator of the Directorate, Mrs Chika Onah, stated this in Enugu on Thursday at the inauguration of the second batch of the national apprenticeship scheme.

Onah welcomed the participants to the event which obviously keyed into the objectives of the NDE.

She noted that the objectives included job creation through deliberate attempts at fighting poverty and unemployment among the teeming Nigerian youth.

She said that NDE as an employment agency was charged with the responsibility to design and implement programmes to combat mass unemployment.

Onah noted that the participants would within the next three months be equipped with the basic skills in different fields of endeavour.

The coordinator congratulate them for being among those selected adding that the selection was done at 50 persons per local government across 17 council areas of the state.

She drew their attention to the continued need to adhere strictly to the protocols on COVID-19 pandemic for the prevention of the spread in the country.

Onah said that the activities of the NDE in Enugu State could not had been effectively possible without the support of the Enugu State Government led by Mr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

She commended the leadership of NDE under the headship of Dr Mohammed Nasir for the vibrancy and steadfastness that had been injected in the NDE family

In the same vein, the Chairman Enugu South local Government Area, Mr Monday Eneh, who was represented by the vice chairman, Miss Sandra Onyia, encouraged the beneficiary to take the gesture very seriously adding that she was once a beneficiary of the NDE programme in 2006.

Onyia explained that the programme helped her a lot to become who she is in society today noting that she could bake cake and other things.

In his speech, the executive chairman of Nkanu West LGA Mr Uchenna Nwobodo, who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on political Matters, Mr Donatus Nwogbo, commended NDE for the initiative.

He encouraged the beneficiary to put in their best in the training.

Subsequently, the Executive Chairman of Enugu North Local Government Area, Mr Emeka Onunze, who was represented by his Personal Assistant, Mr Chinedu Agwu, applauded NDE for the initiative to empower such number of people especially at this pandemic.

In a related development, one of the beneficiaries Mr Sylvanus Ugwu, who spoke on behalf of others thanked NDE for the gesture and asked God to give them wisdom to learn the skill.
