Sokoto, Sept. 17, 2020 Malam Buhari Haliru (PDP-Sokoto North I), the Chairman, Sokoto State House of Assembly Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, has urged community leaders to monitor the ongoing classrooms construction.
Haliru made the call during an inspection of classroom projects at Binji, Silame, Tangaza, Dange Shuni and Tureta local government areas, saying that the committee was determined to ensure availability of adequate number of classrooms for the school children in the areas.
“The construction work is to facilitate proper learning environment for our children and the future generation of leaders.
“Therefore, we need to be properly guided in order to ensure standard work done and make sure the future generation get the best.
“Moreover, our community leaders and stakeholders need to ensure proper monitoring of the project because government is doing the work for them, any irregularity will be a setback to us,” he said.
Haliru directed the contractor handling the classrooms at the Inname Primary School in Binji Local Government Area to halt his poor construction work and report to the Assembly.
According to him, the contractor’s project was full of irregularities, stressing that it has to be reconstructed to meet specifications.
On his part, the village head of Inname, Malam Abubakar Bello, commended the lawmakers for their insisting on standard work being done throughout the state.
He assured them of proper monitoring of the project and reporting regularly to the Assembly the progress on the projects sited in the community.
Newsmen reports that the committee had earlier inspected the projects at Binji Primary School, Sarki Abdulwahab Primary School and Aliyu Jodi Primary School in Binji LGA.
The lawmakers also visited Gande Primary School in Silame LGA, Gidan Madi Primary School in Tangaza LGA and Kamfanin Diya Primary School in Tureta LGA.
Others were Fajaldu Primary School, Dabaga Primary School, Bissalam Primary School and Gazarniya Nomadic Primary School in Dange Shuni LGA.
