Procurement, investment bills pass second reading at Kwara Assembly

Ilorin, Sept. 16, 2020 The Public Procurement Agency Amendment Bill 2020 and the Kwara State Investment Promotion Agency Bill 2020 on Wednesday passed second reading at the State House of Assembly.

The two bills which are executive bills bordering on procurement and investment were presented to the House on Tuesday for consideration by Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq.

The motion for the Second Reading of the two bills was moved by the House leader. Abubakar Olawoyin-Magaji, and it enjoyed the support of all members at the plenary.

The bills passed the second reading after the lawmakers delineated on the advantages the public procurement and investment will bring to the state.

Leading the debate on the two bills before it passed the second reading, the House leader, Abubakar Olawoyin-Magaji explained that the Public Procurement Amendment Bill is to provide enough room for transparency and accountability in the operations of the Agency.

The House leader pointed out that the Kwara State Investment Promotion Agency bill seeks to establish an Agency to coordinate domestic and foreign investment promotion activities in the state.

Other legislators who contributed during the debate on the bills spoke in similar vein and called for the accelerated passage of the bills in view of their importance.

The Clerk of the House, Hajia Hslimah Perogi later read the bill for the second time.

The Speaker of the House, Mr Yakubu Danladi, referred the two bills to an Ad-hoc Committee set up by the House to further work on the bills and report back to the within a short period.
