Amajuoyi said in an interview with Newsmen on Tuesday in Owerri, that the election should not be seen by any candidate as a “do-or-die” exercise.

He said being privileged to become a candidate of a political party for an election was a call to service and not something any person should be desperate about.

The NRM candidate also admonished political parties and their candidates not to encourage the youths to indulge in activities that would jeopardise the prevailing peace and unity in the area.

Amajuoyi, a former lecturer at the Kaduna College of Education, further appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure a free, fair and transparent exercise.

“It is obvious that some persons are desperate about this election, but I will continue to remind them that it is not a ‘do-or-die’ thing. We must allow God’s will to prevail.

“Also, our people will not be cowed again on the basis of sentiments or be deceived by the affluence of any candidate.

“We are convinced that what counts is the person’s pedigree or capacity to deliver.

“Our people are tired of failed promises and gambling with their mandate. This time around, they want solutions to their developmental plights through effective representation and leadership,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr Mike Nze, the NRM Chairman in Imo, has said that the deregistration of non performing political parties by INEC, would enhance the performance of the existing ones, especially during elections.

It would be recalled that the Appeal Court on Aug. 10 reversed INEC’s deregistration of 22 political parties.

However, Nze canvassed a bill to checkmate the proliferation of political parties, saying that if such was not checked, “time will come when every Dick and Harry in this country will own a party for selfish gains.

On the chances of NRM winning the bye-election, he said the party won election in Zamfara and the FCT and would also win in Imo.

He said the party had grassroots support, especially the youths and women in the senatorial distric.

“We are in touch with the youths and women of Okigwe zone and they have all agreed to massively vote for our party,” he said.
