Abuja, Sept. 12, 2020 A retired Director of Parks and Recreation, Mr Luka Achi has donated 67 tree seedlings to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Department of Parks and Recreation, to mark his 67th birthday celebration.
The former director, who served in the department, made this known in a statement signed by Mrs Josie Mudasiru, Assistant Director of Information, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), on Saturday in Abuja.
Achi explained that before his retirement, he believed in the mandate setting up the department, adding that he would continue to contribute his quota to ensure that the success of the department.
Responding, the current Director of Parks and Recreation, Mrs Riskatu Abdulazeez, expressed joy to have the support of her former boss.
Abdulazeez said the donation underscored the fact that developing and beautifying Abuja was not a task to be left in the hands of the government officials alone.
She also expressed appreciation to the former director, who she said had shown by his gesture, that he wanted the progress of not only the department, but the FCT administration as a whole.
She urged members of the public to emulate the retired director by cooperating with the FCT administration in keeping Abuja beautiful, clean and safe for business and recreation.
Meanwhile, the Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), has described the appointment of Abdulazeez as the right choice that would give the city a facelift.
The FCT Amirah of FOMWAN, Bola Usman, who spoke during a courtesy visit, described Abdulazeez, who was recently appointed a director of the department, as “a round peg in a round hole”.
