Warri (Delta), Sept. 4, 2020 Kenneth Nwaomucha, a Chairmanship aspirant in the upcoming Delta Football Association (DFA) elections, on Friday in Warri said his priority would be the development of youth football in the state.

Nwaomucha who is the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Sports to Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa, said he was gunning for the position to improve football in the state.

“I believe in grassroots football development to discover talents, and I know this will help so much in improving football in the state.

“As Chairman of the Delta chapter of Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) in 2010, I ensured the registration of 62 academies and youth football teams in Delta.

“From these, a lot of the players have grown into playing for some of our national league clubs.

“So, if I take the position of leadership of the DFA, I will improve on my past achievements as YSFON Chairman,’’ he said.

Nwaomucha assured that DFA would ensure that those teams not affiliated to it were affiliated, and there would be more focus on youth teams.

“Warri Wolves for instance are known for producing young players.

“For example, Oghenekaro Etebo came up under my leadership, and we are going to improve on that to bring more of our players into global limelight,’’ he assured.

The aspirant also said DFA under him would help to fortify the state-owned teams such as Warri Wolves and other clubs owned by individuals in the state.

“We will do this through the products from the youth teams. This will help us to avoid depending on players from other states to strengthen our clubs,” he said.

Nwaomucha further said he would operate an open-door policy where everyone would be given equal opportunity to make contributions.

Speaking on the issue of zoning formula in the matters of football in the state, Nwaomucha said “political understanding is better than a written agreement.

“It is the turn of Delta North to complete their eight years before it goes to another Senatorial District.

“If you are closer to the people, you will know more about them.

“With my closeness to the people, including the footballers and the sports media in Delta, I assure that there will tremendous improvement when I come on board,” he said.

Naija247news reports that a caretaker committee had since March 2020 been overseeing the affairs of DFA.

This followed the expiration of the tenure of the board headed by Edema Fuludu.(NAN)
