Benin, Sept. 3, 2020 A group, Edo Equity Forum, on Thursday commended the Benin Monarch, Oba Ewuare 11 for organising a peace meeting between the PDP and the APC candidates in the state’s Sept. 19 governorship election.

Mr Benjamin Omoigui, the Spokesman of the group, told newsmen in Benin that the meeting called by the Oba was in the interest of the Edo people.

Omoigui said: “We are here to commend the Oba for the recent peace meeting between the candidates of the PDP and the APC .

“We know that this intervention is for the benefit of the Edo people.

“The wishes of Edo people would only be actualised under a peaceful atmosphere, which is why we are grateful to the Oba of Benin.

“With the Oba’s assurances, Edo people should be rest assured that the election is going to be peaceful, free and fair,” he added.

He further thank the monarch for condemning the attack on Gov. Godwin Obaseki at his palace, saying that the attack was an attempt to smear the royal stool.

In a related development, the state Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chris Nehikhare, also commended the Oba for his intervention.

Nehikhare said: ” We appreciate His Majesty for his fatherly role in calling for the peace meeting. We appreciate him and for us in the PDP we are going to take it seriously.

“We also want to say that there was no time in that peace meeting when the Oba stopped the police from investigating those indicted for the election violence in the state.

“So we encourage the police to investigate and prosecute all those that have been indicted to serve as a deterrent to other trouble makers in the state,” he said.

According to him, the police are not doing enough to fish out perpetrators of violence.

He said the law enforcement agency should also go after the thugs attacking members and supporters of the PDP.
