Owerri, Aug. 18, 2020 Organisers of the 16th edition of the Adandiigbo Cultural Pageant have solicited support from well-meaning Nigerians for its pageantary.
Chairman of the pageant’s Organising Committee and Convener, Mr Onyechere Anele, made the call while addressing newsmen in Owerri on Tuesday, after a zoom enabled meeting of the organisers.
Anele who thanked Igbo sons and daughters who had so far indicated interest in attendance, support and identifying with the event, also commended people of different ethnicities for their support and interests.
Speaking on this year’s theme, ‘Protection of the Igbo Girl -Child (nchekwa umu agbogho ala Igbo) he expressed optimism that more Igbo entrepreneurs would show support for their culture.
He also posited that the event had turned out to be a leveler which was building bridges across ethnic divides and called for the participation of more Igbos in the Igbo cultural pageantry project.
According to him, the most impacting support for the first edition of the Adandiigbo cultural pageant preparations came from Commodore F.B.I Porbeni of Ijaw origin, an indication that season 16 can attract support from all parts of the federation.
“The laudable season 16 of this great Igbo project billed for November 2020, is underway and preparations are in top gear.
“Many thanks to all our supporters from Igbos and Nigerians at large; we call for more support,” he said.
“This cultural fiesta is first of its kind because it has defined a new path in celebrating Igbo cultural heritage through pageantry and teaching youngsters Igbo values not normally taught in formal educational institutions.
“These values are essential in the emotional , psychological and social well-being and of the average Igbo girl who probably as a result of city life, has been denied the opportunity to experience real Igbo values and cultural heritage,” he said.
He however informed that the cultural pageant had seen a lot of Igbo youths sign up for different roles ranging from, talent exposition, runway fashion, folktales, and so many other creative roles with ace actor, Steve Ebo as host for season 16.
He also said that Igbo personalities who keyed into the project would be acknowledged on all social media handles of the pageant.
