Shea: Association pledges to involve traditional leaders in projects nationwide Entrepreneurship

Birnin Kebbi, Aug. 14, 2020 The National Shea Products Association of Nigeria (NSPAN) on Friday pledged to involve traditional leaders in shea industry sustainability project in communities across the country.

Mohammed Ahmed-Kontagora, its new National President, made this pledge in a statement made available to journalists in Birnin Kebbi.

The statement was signed by Mr Abubakar Bagudu-Kalgo, the National Publicity Secretary of the association.

Ahmed-Kontagora said after the inauguration of the new executive members in Abuja on Aug. 13, that the engagement of traditional leaders would go a long way in promoting and repositioning the industry.

”Their involvement will be designed to promote robust entreprenurrship activities aimed at empowering rural women who formed bulk of shea value chain membership.

”Apart from that we hope it will taddress the problem of indiscriminate felling of economic trees for domestic purposes.

“I promised to work with my members to ensure that traditional leaders are engaged in the shea industry sustainably project in their respective communities across the country.

“Therefore, I want to use this medium to call for a united shea family to pave way for repositioning the shea sector to an enviable position in the nation’s agricultural commodity placement,” he said.

The new executive members are Ahmed-Kontagora, as President with Ali Saidu and Richard Akanmode, as Vice President I and Vice President II, respectively.

Others are Adamu Modibbo, as Secretary General, Ibrahim Maliki, Assisant Secretary, while Abubakar Bagudu-Kalgo clinched Publicity Secretary position.
Ahmed Tarika and Alamin Umara, Acting Chairman, All Farmers’ Association (AFAN), Borno State, retained their positions as Treasurer and Financial Secretary, respectively

Guests at the occasion included representatives of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Raw Material Research and Development Council and the Nigeria Export Promotion Council.

Others included the Director General, Niger State Commodity Export Promotion Agency, Hajiya Fatima Wushishi and Federation of Agricultural Commodities Associations of Nigeria (FACAN), among others.
