Maize growers, processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (MAN) , yesterday took the bull by the horn as they made available to farmers, farm imputes worth millions of Naira.
Imputes doled out which our correspondent observed are loan facilities from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), includes; improved maize seedlings, herbicides , fertilizers to mention but just a few.
Flagging off the distributions of the items, the commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr David Ishaya Kassa said the ministry was encouraged by the bold steps taken by the aforementioned organizations to herald smiles on the faces of farmers across the state.
The commissioner who spoke through one of the deputy director in the ministry, Illiya Karfe, charged farmers to take advantage of the farm inputs to better theire lots and their communities at large.
On his part, the association chairman, Abdullahi Abubakar Bala said the association has come to stay and reiterated it readiness to execute ot assigned responsibilities by promoting maize production, processing and marketing in the state.
Federal Government in it drive to offer maximum support to commodity association especially those directly linked to value addition and Food security , according to him , had in the year 2018 approved the cooperate registration of MAGAPMAN under the companies and allied matters degree number of 1990.
He said ” it is a known fact that maize has remained one of the most global accepted food crop and most utilized industrial raw material ” stating that the “modus operandi will involve the provision of ready made Marketers at the end of the cropping season in a well designed anchor borrowers arrangement”
Stressing that the association is the Apex body for all maize value chain and other stakeholders in Nigeria, the Association as made known by currently has over five thousand registered maize Growers,five hundred Processors and several other players nation wide .
The MAGAPMAN , as further stated by him “has a great vision of evolving proactive collaboration with all relevant stakeholders for improve maize production , processing and marketing at all levels.”
Encouraged by the doggednes the association, the leadership of the CBN who spoke via Buba yunusa Mubi, Said the programme is a loan scheme aimed at empowering farmers .
While admonishing the association to strengthen it’ structures at all levels for effective performance, farmers who benefited from the gesture, as suggested by him should not indulge in selling out the imputes.
