Kano, July 13, 2020 The Kano State House of Assembly on Monday, called on the State Government to urgently repair two collapsed bridges in Tofa and Rimin Gado Local Government Areas.
The assembly, presided by the Speaker, Alhaji Abdulazeez Gafasa, made the call following a motion of urgent public importance presented by the member representing Tofa/Rimin Gado constituency, Alhaji Bello Butu-Butu.
Presenting the motion, Butu-Butu said that the collapsed bridge in Tofa local government link seven communities, while that of Rimin Gado, link eight communities.
According to him, the collapse of the two bridges ocassioned by heavy downpour, has pushed the people of the affected communities into serious hardship.
”The affected communities are well known for a lot of businesses, including farming activities.
“Therefore, the collapse of the bridges has really affected the economic and social activities of the people, as they cannot connect with their relatives in other areas.
“Like you know, we also have a lot of farmers in both local governments, but the collapse of the bridges has made it difficult for them to convey their goods to markets.
“Also, our traders find it difficult to carry their goods to other neighbouring markets as they normally do on a daily or weekly basis,” he stated.
The lawmakers, therefore called on the State Government to as a matter of urgency repair the bridges.
During the session, the assembly also called on the government to assist flood victims in Yaryasa community, in Tudun Wada local government.
The call followed a motion presented by the member representing Tudun Wada constituency, Alhaji Abdullahi Iliyasu.
According to Iliyasu, the flood, also caused by a heavy downpour, affected 30 houses in Yaryasa community and left the people stranded.
The assembly called on the State Government to also assist the affected people and repair the damages.
