Reports recalls that Governor Seyi Makinde had in May this year, shortly after his inauguration ordered the dissolution of the council bosses, though the ex-chairmen have gone to the court to challenge the decision of Makinde.

The approval of the dissolution of the council chairmen was sequel to a motion matter of urgent public importance brought to the floor of the house by its Majority leader, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin.

Adedoyin in his motion entitled, “Need to review the activities of Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) Over conduct of Local Government and Local Council Development Areas Election in Conformity with provision of the laws” called on his colleagues to approve the dissolution of the state independent electoral commission (OYSIEC).

The House, while endorsing the dissolution on Tuesday, described the conduct of election into the 33 Local Government Areas and 35 Local Council Development Areas by the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), in May, 2018 in the state as unconstitutional and Ultra-vies.

The house, after deliberating on the matter, then resolved and okayed the dissolution of the Board of Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) stating that, it was in the public interest and preservation of the sanctity of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Our correspondent gathered that, the Chairman of Association of Local Government Chairman of Nigeria in Oyo State, Prince Ayodeji Abass- Alesiloye had earlier described Makinde’s action for sacking the LG/LCDA chairmen as unconstitutional and a violation of a subsisting court order.

Abass-Aleshinloye argued that, “ALGON, Oyo State rejects the unconstitutional act because It is illegal, undemocratic, violation of rule of law and contempt of a subsisting court injunction against any dissolution of the Local Government as ordered by Justice A.A. Aderemi of High Court 2, Ibadan, Oyo State, on May 6, 2019.”

The House also on Tuesday, approved a request Makinde, for the appointment of 10 additional special advisers, (SA).

The request delivered to the house in a message sent to the lawmakers was encoded in a letter from the executive governor, read by the clerk of the house, Mrs. Felicia Oyediran.

Sanjo Adedoyin moved the motion for the approval and seconded by the Minority leader, Hon. Ashimiyu Alarape.

The house also deliberated on the urgent need to arrest the dearth of teachers in public schools in rural areas of the state.
