The immediate past chairman of the Taraba state chapter of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA),Joel Daniel Ubandoma, had been abducted by unknown gunmen in Jalingo metropolis
The incident which took place at about 1 am in his resident located at Mayo-Dasa in Jalingo metropolis as observed by Naija 247 have thrown member of the Bar in dejected moods.
Confirming the ugly incident to our reporter in a telephone interview, the publicity secretary of the association, Boniface Iorkumbo, said the abductors stormed the resident of their victim at the “early hours of today and made away with our colleague.”
According to him, the kidnappers, some of them whom he said gained access to the compound “through the fence” demanded for “money from him” before taking him away. Though not certain if they succeeded in collecting money from him before abducting him, but as stated by him ” it is assumed he gave them the money they demanded for”
Even though the incident have been reported to the police and other security outfits by the association, a call has as well been made to all members of the bar irrespective of religious affiliations to fervently indulge in prayer and fasting to ensure his immediate release unhurt.
Apart from the call made by the association to security agencies, the need for the state government to as well throw it weights behind the security and members of the Bar to facilitate the immediate release of their colleagues to save the family from being over traumatize .
As at the time of filing this report, the kidnappers, according to the publicity secretary are yet to contact the association or family members of the victims to demand for ransom .
The association who described Ubandoma on their facebook page as “someone that is well loved at the bar and has contributed immensely to the growth of the Bar in Jalingo” passionately called on his abductors to “release him for the sake of his wife,children and the entire Bar.”
They equally passionately pleaded with the various security outfits to improve on the security situation of the state, stating that “we equally charge our security forces to put up all efforts in seeing that the state is rid off all criminality .”
The crime which has no doubt enveloped members of the legal profession in garments of fear, has also compelled residents of Jalingo, the state capital to raise eyebrows on the present security situation which have in the past few weeks made sleeps to disappeared from the eyes of the people
Also confirming the report, the state police command through it Public Relations Officer (PPRO), David Misal, said the command is “aware that the former NBA chairman in Taraba state had been kidnapped”adding that the command has fashioned out ways that would lead to his release unhurt.”
