The Taraba state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the federal government to deploy enough soldiers to the state to provide adequate security for the people during Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.
The leadership of the party who made this known in Jalingo while briefing journalists, said the request have become necessary in order to ensure massive turn out of electorates and to as well frustrate opposition party from making use of the local marshals from harassing, intimidating as well as rigging the elections.
Led by the party state chairman, Barrister El-Sudi Ibrahim Tukur, the party said “we are making this request with a great sense of responsibility because we are aware that the state government, having lost its popularity, is prepared to go to any length to prevent the peaceful conduct of the elections. ”
Apart from the aforementioned request, the PDP government as made known by the APC “intend to do anything possible to deny Tarabans especially in APC densely supported areas the right atmosphere and opportunity to vote. ”
Wondering why the PDP is viewing the forthcoming polls as “a do or die affairs ” the party according to Tukur “should tell Tarabns why they should be re-elected after failing woefully to perform in the last three and half years.
Citing the already recruited local marshals whom APC observed have been adequately equipped by the State government to thwart the dream of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from holding successful elections, deploying enough soldiers and other security outfits to the state, they believed would go a long way to motivate eligible votes to come out en-mass to exercise their franchise.
Dejected that the state government has continue to use tax payers funds to empower the local marshals, while the security operatives have been relegated to the background, authority at center as suggested by them should be proactive in order from halting the state government from carrying ‘out its evil plans against the people. ”
He said “as a matter of fact the administration of governor Ishaku had not bought a single patrol vehicle for police except the ones provided by the Zenith Bank, but the gov has now provided customized vehicles to an illegal security organizations to frustrate the elections from taking place in the state. ”
Denying the allegations, the leadership of the PDP believed that APC are the ones working tirelessly round the clock to halt the election from holding on the fixed date accusing the party of advocating for an”stagard election. “
