Aggrieved delegates and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday stormed the Secretariat of the party to protest against the emergence of Senator Ademola Adeleke as the governorship candidate of the party for the September 22nd election.
They insisted that Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi won the election and that the process was manipulated in favour of Adeleke.
They described the exercise as a charade and called for its cancellation.
A PDP Chieftain, Mr. Funso Babarinde who addressed the crowd lamented that the process of the exercise was characterized by fraud and manipulations.
While stating his position on the outcome of the election, Babarinde insisted that the votes attributed to Ogunbiyi were much lower than the actual votes he got.
Babarinde said majority of the delegates voted overwhelmingly for Ogunbiyi and that a lot of his votes were voided because some delegates did not write his name in full.
Speaking earlier at his residence, Ogunbiyi said the outcome of the primary election was unacceptable, saying that it was manipulated.
Ogunbiyi said “The outcome of the primary election has been a subject of concern to a great majority of our party members who have been disappointed, disillusioned and confused by the conduct of the exercise and the results as declared by the panel.”
“Some of the major issues which compromised the integrity of the exercise and made the results clearly unacceptable include the non-adherence to the clear provisions of the Electoral Guidelines and unfortunate manipulation of the accreditation, voting, sorting and counting of the votes cast by delegates at the primaries,” he added.
