The Chairman, Trade Union Congress (TUC), Anambra chapter, Mr. Ifeanyi Okechukwu, has urged workers in the state to be dedicated to their jobs in order to justify the proposed new minimum wage.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Okechukwu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Friday, that it was obvious that the increment would come but workers need to improve on their service delivery.
“Workers should henceforth give more quality time to their assigned duties for government at all levels to be justified for increasing their take home pay.
“Workers are advised to shun truancy, lateness to duty, gossiping and engaging in trading during work hours,” he said.
Okechukwu expressed optimism that the ongoing public hearings on salary increase holding at the six geo-political zones and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) would enhance the living condition of civil servants.
“Civil servants have suffered a lot of neglect from both public and private sector employers which this government is trying to address.
“I wonder what the system will be like in the next five years when most of the aging workers would have retired leaving it for the younger ones that are not zealous to duty because of remuneration that can’t take them home,” he said. (NAN)
