lagos—Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has approved construction of additional 285 roads and other projects across the 20 Local Governments, LGAs and 37 Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs, aimed at easing transportation problem and improving standard of residents.

On the 285 roads, Special Adviser to the Governor on Community and Communications, Mr. Akeem Sulaimon, who disclosed this during a stakeholders’ meeting with Executives of Community Development Associations, CDAs in Ikeja, noted that the projects excluded the 181 roads earlier approved by the governor.
According to Sulaimon, the governor was interested in taking development to the grassroots, hence communities in the 57 councils would be assisted in executing self-help projects. He informed that about four to five self-help projects would be executed in each of the 57 councils across the state. Sulaimon said: “The projects will be funded by the state government.
The projects embarked upon by the CDAs and the CDCs are complementary projects because the funds used in constructing the projects were contributed by the residents and the projects include construction of roads, streetlights and others. These projects will ease life of the residents.”
Explaining further on the projects, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Affairs, Tajudeen Quadri, said there were about 3,900 CDAs and 57 Community Development Committees, CDCs in the state.
According to him, “Assisting the communities to execute a minimum of four self-help projects will be beneficiary to the people at the grassroots.”
