Mauritius inflation rate inches up to 6.2 pct in January

PORT LOUIS (Reuters) – Mauritius’ year-on-year inflation rate jumped to 6.2 percent in January from 4.2 percent in the previous month, the statistics office said on Thursday.

Food, non-alcoholic beverages, education and health were the main contributors to the increase in the consumer price index in January, statistics Mauritius said in a statement. The Indian Ocean island was hit by cyclone Berguitta in January.
