GMoU board: Monarch threatens to sue Bayelsa govt

YENAGOA—THE paramount ruler of Bilabiri II community in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, HRH Minna Fun Omotete, has threatened to drag officials of the state Ministry of Mineral Resources to court following the rejection of the community’s nominee as member of the Community Trust Board over alleged security concern. Top officials of the ministry had refused to inaugurate the Mein Cluster Global Memorandum of Understanding, GMoU, board, requesting the community to change one of the 10 nominees and replace him with another, alleging that the rejected nominee has “generated security concern.” The paramount ruler, who described the rejection of the nominee as unacceptable, said the ministry was yet to provide cogent reasons for its action and urged it to substantiate the “claims of security concerns” against the nominee or risk court action. Omotete said: “As a community, we are finding it difficult to understand the rationale behind the rejection of one of our nominees for the community trust by some self-seeking officials of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, especially where no cogent reasons were forwarded to us.”
