Enugu Council Poll: PDP Leaders Deny Abduction of APC Gov Candidate

Date:

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State has described as false, mischievous and baseless the claims by the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state during the 2015 election, Mr. Okey Ezea, that he was allegedly kidnapped and brutalised during the November 4 local government elections in the state.

The PDP had won the 17 chairmanship and 260 councillorship seats in the state during the council polls, while leaders of the APC faulted the process. However Ezea reportedly accused PDP leaders of manhandling him during the election in his Igboeze South council area.

Addressing journalists in Nsukka, Tuesday, the leaders of the PDP led by Hon. Martin Ugwueze representing Igboeze South constituency accused Ezea of fomenting trouble in the area.

While urging the APC chieftain to rethink and drop his “politics of rancour and violence”, the PDP leaders said they had no reason to either kidnap or molest opposition party leaders when PDP remained the dominant party in Enugu State.
Ugwueze described as unfounded, baseless and deliberate the attempt to blackmail PDP in view of the recent allegation of Ezea that he was kidnapped and attacked in Igboeze south during the November 4 council poll in the state by stakeholders.
“Neither the Commissioner for Transport in Enugu State, Mr Vitus Okechi, Mr Sunday Emeka Ajiogwu, the vice-chairman elect of Igboeze South LGA nor any PDP member attacked Ezea on November 4th Enugu State council poll.
“PDP stakeholders want to put the record straight that no PDP member in Igboeze South LGA attacked Ezea before, during or after November 4 council election in Enugu State as the election was free and fair,” he said.

According to him, “We the stakeholders are surprised that the same Ezea who endorsed the PDP chairmanship candidate and asked to be allowed to produce the councillor candidate in his ward is saying PDP attacked him.
“Why will we attack Ezea when 99 per cent of Igboeze South LGA are PDP and PDP has been winning elections in the area since 1999.”
