Buhari meets PDP, APC leaders, says democracy needs opposition

President Muhammadu Buhari this morning met with leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

The APC delegation was led by its national chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun; and the PDP, by its national caretaker committee chairman, Ahmed Makarfi.

The meeting was held at the new Banquet Hall of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Makarfi said his party would continue to support Buhari’s administration in its bid to take the nation to a higher level.

He asked the APC government to respect judicial pronouncements on corruption cases.

The PDP’s scribe prayed Allah give Buhari more strength and wisdom to pilot the affairs of the country.

Oyegun described the meeting as unique, saying it showed that Buhari is the president of all irrespective of political party, religious or ethnic affiliations.

Buhari described the meeting as a symbol of national unity, adding that democracy needs opposition which according to him does not mean hostility or antagonism.

He also thanked Nigerians for praying for his recovery.

The president called on all Nigerians to continue praying for the peace and prosperity.
