Bolivian President Evo Morales has travelled to Cuba for emergency medical treatment, the government in La Paz announced on Thursday.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The decision was taken after Morales was hardly able to speak during a cabinet meeting earlier in the day, Presidential Minister Rene Martinez said.
The 57-year-old president fell ill in January and his condition had worsened, Martinez said without elaborating. Morales cancelled two previously scheduled events this week.
Morales had announced in December that he would re-contest in 2019, in spite of a constitutional term limit.
Morales have been in office since 2006 and have just become the longest-serving Bolivian head of state since independence in 1825. (dpa/NAN)
