Chevron Donate books, teaching Aids to four schools and trains 49 teachers on ICT

As part of its commitment in improving the standard of education in the country (Chevron Nigeria Limited) with its co-ventures in oil Mining License (OML) 140 blocks donates and handover ceremony of books and teaching Aids to four schools in Ado –Odo, Ota Local Government Area, Ogun State.  The schools are Ansar-UD- Deen Comprehensive College, Saint Michael Comprehensive Secondary School, Anglican Grammar School and Ignamode Grammar School.
Speaking at the books and teaching Aids ceremony Held at Ansar Deen Comprehensive College Ado Odo Ota Local Government Area, Ogun State.
The director Mr. Richard Kennedy, Star Ultra Deep Petroleum Limited who was represented by,
Mr.  Sam Otuonye, Manager, Policy, Government and   public Affairs, Lagos, Chevron Nigeria Limited. Highlighted the reasons for donating books and teaching Aids. According to him,
The Intervention of the Star Ultra Deep Petroleum Ltd and its Co Ventures in OML 140 blocks is principally to assist the government improve the supply of critical books and teaching aids in Nigerian schools and increase teachers’ capacity in using modern techniques to impact the desired knowledge to student.
He also noted, that the important of books and reading cannot be over emphasized.
He also quoted, an American Writer Vera Nazarian who once said that “whenever you read a good book, somewhere in the world a door open to allow more light”.
Reading a good book, as we all know, takes one from the world of ignorance to the world of intellect. The enlightenment from books does not discriminate against anyone, old or young,  Adding that we believe access to good books and availability of teaching aids will enhance teaching and learning in the schools and improve students grades in both internal and external examination.
The chairman, oil and Gas Nigeria Limited Mr. Reggie Uduhiri, who was present at the ceremony, on his own part outline the reason for the books and teaching Aids donation According to him, I quote, the donation of educational materials and books to Ansarudeen Comprehensive College, Saint Michael Comprehensive Secondary  School, Anglican Grammar School and Iganmode Grammar School, we are working with our Co-Ventures to assist the government of Ogun State and the Federal Ministry of Education in moving the standard of Education to higher level.
The Oil and Gas Company is committed to ensuring Nigerians, acquire the necessary education and skills needed for better life he said.
The chairman also stated, that the donation made today reflects our belief that education and skills acquisition are pivotal to the sustainable development of a country.  He also added that similar donation was made in Ebonyi State.
ONG with stakeholders in OML 140, have also sponsored economic empowerment programmes in Anambra, Niger and Oyo State, aimed at building capacity in young Nigerians and helping them to be self-reliant.
Mr. Reggie, noted that the intervention has led to employment creation, poverty reduction and livelihood improvement as well as development of rural –based cottage industries, thus enhancing the development of the local economy and also adding that their support for education and economic empowerment programmes in the country will positively impact on academic performances of our young people and the growth of entrepreneurship for sustainable development of the country.
Also the  General Manager, NAPIMS/NNPC MR. Dafe Sejebor, during the donation  ceremony gave is contributions’ according to him,  we  are delighted to be part of this impactful project executed by NNPC with its Co- Ventures in OML 140. The choice education as an area of intervention in Ogun State by the stakeholders in OML . This is because education is like a lamp that provides light in a dark road. I strongly agree that quality education is almost impossible without good books and well-equipped teachers.
The general manger, also noted that NAPIMS, a subsidiary of NNPC, is committed to improving the lives of Nigerians. In achieving this we are continually open to partnerships that facilitate the attainment of this commitment.
Our pride is to see the students from Ogun State go on to become internationally celebrated professionals in whatever field of endeavor they choose. The foundation for this dream is what will are laying today.
The Governor, of Ogun State Mr. Ibikunle Amosun, who was represented by Mr. Lateef Oyewunmi, Ministry of Housing gave his speech of appreciation according to him, the Governor and the people of Ogun State, appreciate the effort of chevron, Lukoil and the NNPC in improving the standard of education in Ogun state, it shows great love for education and we are all happy and hope this will continue.
Other participants also show their appreciations such as the principals, teachers and students of the Ogun state.
Mrs. Ngozi Adeleye, a teacher among the four schools nominated for the donations, teaching aids and also beneficiaries of the information and communication technology (ICT) training made available by the chevron company. According to her,  I’ m happy to be part of the computer program organized by the chevron company to improve the standard of teaching using modern technology which has sharp my career.
Other participants   who were part of the 49 teacher trained by the oil and Gas company, gave their testimony according to them, we came here empty and went home over loaded. We were taught several computer packages such as Microsoft word, Excel, power point which was so new to us.
Speaking to Naija 247news, one of them said I once had three laptops but, I ignorantly sold them not knowing the important of it.  We the teacher, neglected the program when it first came, but along the line we find out that we are still operating in the dark world of education.
Technology has transformed education completely, we are happy to part of this great program and we are ready to impact what we have learnt on our student using the modern teaching tools.
In conclusion Mr.  Sam Otuonye, Manager, Policy, Government and   public Affairs, Lagos, Chevron Nigeria Limited stated, that Star  water petroleum Limited, another Chevron company, and its partners in the Agbami project not long ago donated a fully equipped chest clinic and Tuberculosis Leprosy(TBL) Referral centre  to Hansen  Centre, Iberekodo Abeokuta, modern science laboratory blocks to Ibogun Comprehensive High School, Ibogun Egbeda and hybrid library and conventional library to Federal Government College, Odogbolu and Muslim College Ijebu respectively.
The partners have also instituted specialized educational scholarship programmes in support of health and manpower development in Nigeria, through targeted support for medical, nursing, laboratory sciences and engineering students.
One hundred and nineteen indigenes of Ogun State,  have benefited from this scholarship program from 2013 to date.  Chevron is proud to have operated for the five decades in Nigeria, adding values to development of Nigerian.
