The much expected Local Government Councils election earlier scheduled for Saturday this week has been postpone by the State Independent Electoral Commission (TSIEC).
In a telephone interview with our state correspondent the chairman of the commission, Chief Philip Duwe, said the postponement has become necessary following the late arrival of the election sensitive materials.
The councils poll which was earlier slated for the 11th of February 2017, according to him, would now be conducted on the 25th of the same month.

Certain that the election would hold on the said new date, the commission, as made known by him has already rolled out relevant machineries for the smooth conduct of the poll but for the late arrival of all the vital sensitive materials.
The SIEC boss who took steps further to beckoned at the electorates and the various registered political parties to exercise patient as the commission has mapped relevant strategies to ensure free, fair and credible election, the ” election materials” as stated by him “are not coming as expected” stressing that ” the commission is 80% into the process but for the late of our sensitive materials.”
In spite the hiccups, the commission,, he said would not derail from it commitment to provide level play ground for all the contestants irrespective of political party affiliations.
Before the postponement, the commission, according to him went into dialogue with all the registered political parties, adding that ” and they unanimously agreed that we should postponed it.”
Convinced that the said sensitive materials would arrival before the new date” e admonished eligible voters to come out en-mass to vote for the candidates of their choice as the commission would work hard to ensure justice during and after the exercise.
Leadership of most of the political parties that bears their minds to Naija247 News welcome the idea which they described as the surest way to conducting credible local governments poll in the state.
