Gove name to activities at the Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board ( TSUBEB) has been bought to a standstill as workers in its employment of the shut down its state secretariat to protest over unpaid one month outstanding salary and welfare of its members.
Armed with posters carrying various form of inscriptions such as ” pay us our entitlements, Stop paying our members due to NUT, Agbaizo must go” etc
the workers who could not fathomed the reason behind the ” illegal deduction of due” called on the state governor to as a matter of urgency throw the board chairman into the unemployed market.”
Addressing newsmen, the NULGE chairman of TSUBEB, Isa Mohammed observed that since the inception of the administration of the board chairman, Yakubu S. Agbaizo ” the activities of the board” have nosedived.
According to him ” the activities of the board ranging from our normal work pace, condition of service infrastructural projects and other activities that has being going on in the board is now experiencing near stop or has crippled owing to the very fact of maladministration that is going on under the present leadership of Agbaizo which we all know has no focus or direction.”
Calling on the workers ” to unite for you have nothing to lose but your chains” the leadership of the union also want the board chairman to as a matter of urgency desist from paying the union dues into the coffer of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).
He said ” the board chairman pays these union dues to NUT and when our members retired they go to the NUT for payment but they are not being attended to.”
The said contribution as stated by him is from members personal emoluments ” to be given to them at retirement or to cater for their wellbeing.”
But the ” irony” as made known by him is that ” the board chairman criminally pays these money to the NUT for personal gains” adding that ” we will not condoned this illicit act of cheating.”
The members, as stated by Mohammed shall continue to ” resist it until such a time he deem it fit to pay us accurately stressing that ” we are using this medium directing him to pay us our member’s union dues and welfare state scheme in arrears for the period of eleven months that he gave to NUT.”
The members who have as well embarked on a four day warning strike urged its members to continue to stay at home while its leadership negotiate with the ” management for the payment our our salary and claims.”
When reach for comment, the state chairman of NULGE, Naphtali Kefas, said the union and the leadership of the protesting Union as well as government representatives are jointly working together resolved the issue.
Though the said board chairman could not be reached but a senior staff of the board told our reporter that most of the enumerated problems are not caused by the incumbent chairmen but inherited, stating that affords by the board have been put in place to ” make sure that everything is resolved.”
Some of the workers bear their minds to Naija247 News vowed to remain indoor pending when the expiration of the ongoing four day warning strike reiterating their desire to continue with the strike pending when their demands are addressed.
