The Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, on Saturday commissioned the first fully Hausa news radio station, 93.1 Arewa Radio, in the state.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!At the commissioning, Mr. Ganduje described the station as a symbol of democracy going by its slogan “fadi ra’ayinka,” which means “express your view”.
Mr. Ganduje said the radio station will compliment Nigeria’s democracy.
He commended the management of the station for allowing Kano residents express their views regardless of their social status.
He expressed optimism that Arewa Radio will not only educate, entertain and enlighten the general public, but would also provide employment opportunities and expose its staff to a world class standard of radio broadcasting owing to the sophisticated equipment used to set up the station.
“Arewa radio station has come to stay, it comes at very important time during the democratic system of government and I believe it will educate, entertain and enlighten members of the public and the people of Kano in particular,” Mr. Ganduje said.
The Governor, who expressed happiness over the choice of sports as one of the cardinal points of the new radio station, urged the management to support Kano Pillars FC to win the Nigerian Professional Football League.
Speaking on his administration’s achievement in the past one year, Mr. Ganduje said although the state is also suffering from Nigeria’s current economic crisis, it has stepped up efforts to diversify the internally generated revenue.
In his remarks, the General Managing Director of the Arewa Radio, Amin Moussalli, said the contents of the station’s schedule, which centre on timely and accurate news, current affairs and sports programmes, were initiated with the aim of building peace and preserving Hausa norms and values in the region.
