UNILAG unfolds 2014/2015 Convocation programmes


The University of Lagos on Friday said it had concluded arrangements toward hosting its Visitor, President Muhammadu Buhari at its forthcoming 2014/2015 Convocation.

The Deputy Registrar, Information of the institution, Mr Toyin Adebule, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

“We are ready for the big occasion as we are optimistic that the visitor will be around to install the new Chancellor of the institution, His Royal Highness Alhaji Abubakar El-Kanemi.

“This university has, over the years, proved to be the nation’s pride in academic excellence and human capacity building.

“Every year, we work toward making the occasion better than the previous ones because we believe in global best practices,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, the university has highlighted events lined up for the convocation.

In a statement signed by Adebule, the ceremony will begin with a news conference on Wednesday, Feb. 24 and will be followed by a Convocation Lecture.

The lecture, scheduled for Monday, Feb. 29, would be delivered by the Minister of Science of Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu.

The registrar further stated that the congregation for the award of first degrees, diploma certificates and announcement of prize winners for graduating students of six faculties would hold on Tuesday, March 1.

This will be followed by the congregation of the award of first degrees, diploma certificates and announcement of prize of winners for graduating students in the College of Medicine.

Adebule also stated that graduating students from seven other faculties and the Distant Learning Institute (DLI) would also be awarded degrees, certificates and prizes on Wednesday, March 2.

The ceremony will be rounded off on Thursday, March 3, with the installation of the new chancellor of the institution.

The conferment of higher degrees by the School of Postgraduate studies will also hold on the same day. (NAN)
