The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Muhammed Katsina, has commended the turnout of voters in the state, saying it was a good development for democracy.
Katsina said this in Ibadan on Saturday after monitoring the accreditation exercise for the presidential election.
“I am impressed by the massive turnout of the electorate in all the areas I visited and their peaceful conduct is highly commendable.
” This is apart from some little hitches involving INEC at the collation centre at Molete and these were later sorted out.
“The security officials assigned to all polling booths have also ensured orderliness and this, I must say, is commendable,” he said.
He said his approach to the conduct of the electoral exercise was through the use of officers in the intelligence unit who were on ground to interact with the people, the physical presence of officers and the deployment of undercover agents.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the police boss commenced the monitoring exercise at about 8.35a.m. in company with the Comptroller of Customs, Oyo/Osun Command, Mr Mohammed Bawa, and heads of other agencies.
The convoy, which took off from the Eleyele Police Headquarters, went through Sabo, Mokola, Yemetu, Kannike area of Beere, Isale Ijebu, Bode Oja, Idi-Arere , Molete, Challenge and Olomi areas of Ibadan
The Olomi Academy area where the NURTW secretariat is located and marked as a trouble spot was, however, calm
