The federal government Friday reinstated about 16,000 resident doctors sacked two weeks ago over the strike embarked upon by the members of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
Special Assistant to the minister, Dan Nwomeh confirmed the reinstatement to Naija247news in Abuja.
The reinstatement came as the Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu had also informed journalists Thursday that he has received the letter from the NMA informing government that the strike has been called off.
Chukwu had told journalists then that “the NMA has communicated to me. I saw their letter by 7pm yesterday. So, I confirm that as at 7pm yesterday, I received a formal communication from the NMA President. So, now we are looking into it and very soon, government will make a pronouncement.”
Also, the reinstatement signals the final resolution to the lingering crisis between the government and NMA since the doctors declared an indefinite strike on July 1st, 2014.
