Nigeria and Germany on Thursday commenced political consultations in Abuja on the platform of the Nigeria-German Bi-national Commission (BNC) for modalities about security cooperation in the fight against insurgency.
The one-day discussion was led by Dr Martin Uhomoihbi, Nigeria’s Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the Dr Markus Ederer, Secretary of State, Foreign Affairs, headed the German side.
Both parties have been discussing further possibilities for cooperation in the police and armed forces sector and also considering intensifying cooperation in crisis and border management.
Further, on the agenda of the Bi-national commission meeting are regional security issues in Mali, Chad and the Central African Republic.
The German government, which promotes inter-religious relations in its Foreign policy, also listed as a key issue for discussion is Nigeria’s 2015 general election.
