Three unemployed men, who allegedly beat a woman to a pulp after destroying goods valued at N 285,000, were on Tuesday charged before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The accused — Sodiq Abiodun, 29; Saidi Afolabi, 28; and Williams Ogunns, 27 — all residents of Ajegunle in Apapa area of Lagos.
They are standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, assault and unlawful damage.
The prosecutor, Cpl. John Iberedem told the court that the accused conspired to beat a woman, Ngozi Odo, to a pulp.
He alleged that the accused also destroyed 35 crates of beer, windows and electric bulbs belonging to one Ndokwa Entertainment.
According to him, the accused committed the offences on June 14 at No.122, Ojo Road, Ajegunle.
The offences, Iberedem noted, contravened Sections 171, 348 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The trio, however, pleaded not guilty.
In his ruling, the Senior Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, granted them bail in the sum of N20, 000 each with one surety each in like sum.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 171 prescribes three years imprisonment for assault occasioning harm, while Section 409 stipulates a two-year jail term for conspiracy.
The case was adjourned to July 14 for mention. (NAN)
