Eke told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Owerri on Thursday that the APC would play politics that promoted the best interest of the masses.
He said the worst mistake ever made in the past by politicians in Imo was the election of candidates with “evil intention’’ into elective positions.
He said the APC could not afford to make such mistakes, adding that only candidates who had good intentions for the people would be invited to contest elective positions.
“We must present our first eleven for elective positions without considering any personal interest.
“APC is for all and if our candidates are not able to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people, we would have failed collectively,” he said.
The chairman said that before any aspirant was selected, the party would be sure of the person’s antecedents.
“We must be sure of the antecedents of any aspirant in the APC to be sure that we are giving Imo the best candidates.
“Candidates who will emerge to fly the party’s flag must be credible and popular aspirants from their constituencies,” he said.
Eke commended Gov. Rochas Okorocha for giving the party’s leadership free hand to operate.
“The governor has never interfered in the affairs of the party since I emerged as its chairman.
“We must work very hard not to disappoint the party both at the state and the national levels,” he said. (NAN)
