Evangelist and missionary Rev. Franklin Graham has declared that “true followers” of Jesus Christ “cannot endorse same-sex marriage.”
Billy Graham’s fourth child said marriage is “settled by God Himself and is not subject to man-made revisions or modifications.”
He was writing in the May 2014 issue of Decision Magazine published by his father’s Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
In the magazine, the younger Graham said “True followers of Jesus Christ, whose salvation is based entirely upon God’s Word, cannot endorse same-sex marriage, regardless of what our President, the Congress, the Supreme Court, the media or the latest Gallup poll says about the matter.”
“In the end, I would rather be on the wrong side of public opinion than on the wrong side of Almighty God who established the standard of living for the world He created. Marriage is a biblically moral issue, not a political or theological one.”
Rev. Graham made almost similar remarks in an interview last March when he said he’s only saying what his father (now 95) would say if he were a younger man.
“I love people enough and care enough to warn them … that if they chose to continue to live in sin, God is going to judge them one day and they’ll be separated from him for eternity in hell,” Rev. Graham said in that interview.
Graham believes that while “many in the liberal and progressive media have deceived the public into thinking that this group makes up a large portion of our nation’s population, surveys support the fact that this small but boisterous movement consists of less than two percent of society.”
“In our country today, there is tremendous pressure on Christians, churches, and Christian organizations to lower our moral standards. God is clear in His Word, and His standards never change,” he said.
Graham is CEO of BGEA and the Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian relief organization.
